Two police suspected of khalwat to be transferred immediately [NSTTV]

GEORGETOWN: Penang police have ordered the immediate transfer of two of its personnel, who were detained in an operation by the Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIPP) yesterday on suspicion of khalwat.

Both officers, one with the rank of major and the other a corporal, have also been subjected to disciplinary action by the Penang contingent police headquarters (IPK) department of Integrity and Standards Compliance (JIPS).

Penang acting police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the two officers served at the Criminal Investigation Department at the Barat Daya district police headquarters.

"Directives for their immediate transfer have been issued, and disciplinary action has been taken by the IPK JIPS," he said when contacted today.

Yesterday, the media reported that the two civil servants, aged 37, were detained by JHEAIPP in a raid at 1.30am at a hotel in Tanjung Tokong, here.

The raid was conducted after the husband of the woman involved lodged a complaint with JHEAIPP, suspecting that the couple were in a prohibited relationship.
