IPOH: After a 40-year wait, a 57-year-old man's dream of obtaining a Class B2 driving licence materialised thanks to the Tambun parliamentary constituency's MyLESEN Programme, held from late December 2023 to early January this year.
Syed Zubairi Syed Tarmizi from Manjoi expressed deep gratitude to the government for providing him with the opportunity to get the licence for free.
"I tried three times to get my licence before, but unfortunately, I failed each time. Alhamdulillah, through this programme, I attended classes, underwent training, and successfully passed the tests.
"I'd like to thank the government for easing the burden and providing me with the chance to obtain this motorcycle licence at no cost," he said when met after a ceremony to hand over driving licences under the Tambun parliamentary constituency's MyLesen B2 programme at Kolej Poly-Tech MARA here today.
The programme was officiated by Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, the Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister and was attended by Hulu Kinta assemblyman Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad.Another participant, Nor Latifah Mohd Zain, 37, from Kampung Dato' Ahmad Said, Manjoi, said she learnt about the programme through her neighbours.
"They suggested that I head to the As-Saadah Mosque in our locality if I wanted further details. So, I went there, obtained the form, filled it in, and decided to join the programme," she said.Obtaining her Class B2 driving license today brought a sigh of relief to the mother of three, as she no longer had to worry about riding a motorcycle on the road.
"Alhamdulillah, now that I have this licence, I feel confident riding a motorcycle anywhere without worry," she said.Meanwhile, Shamsul Iskandar said the programme involved the provision of free licences to 1,000 individuals in the B40 group with a total allocation of RM300,000.
"Those eligible for this licence are individuals aged 16 and older, with RM300 set aside for each participant to take part in the programme," he said.Shamsul Iskandar said that the programme was part of the government's efforts to nurture competent motor vehicle drivers who always adhere to traffic laws.
"Owning a class B2 driving licence will not only aid in facilitating movement and managing economic activities but also contribute to the welfare of the Tambun community, which will ultimately help increase their household income," he said.–BERNAMA
