Single mother's RM1 kuih stall a beacon of generosity

KOTA BARU: For the past four years, single mother Siti Maimunah Deraman and her four children have been selling various types of Kelantanese delicacies for RM1 per packet.

The 64-year-old offers more than 20 types of traditional kuih at her stall in Kampung Tanjung Baru, near the popular Pantai Cahaya Bulan beach.

Her stall has gained attention for being one of the cheapest sellers of traditional kuih in the district.

Maimunah sells delicacies such as onde-onde, sekaya, puteri mandi, and biji nangka, all priced at RM1.

"Other traders might have raised the price of their kuih due to rising daily essentials, but our traditional delicacies will remain at RM1 per packet, with the quantity depending on the size of the kuih.

"We are content with making around RM40 in profit daily, as we aim to help the needy and the poor," said the mother of eight.

With the help of her three daughters and a son-in-law, they manage to produce about 1,000 packets a day.

Maimunah's stall is open every day from 3.30pm to 7pm, and most of her clients are local villagers.

"I only sell the RM1 kuih during Ramadan because I believe this is the right time for us to give charity to those who are less capable.

"Praise be to God... all my traditional desserts have been sold out since the first day of Ramadan," she added.

Maimunah also promotes her business on social media, especially on TikTok.
