Man who rammed into six people killing three, claims he was beaten up

TELUK INTAN: Police confirmed receiving a report from the driver of a Proton Saga who rammed into six men who were walking to a mosque yesterday, claiming that he had been beaten up.

Three Pakistani men were killed in the accident while three others were severely injured when they were hit by the car driven by the man, who was on drugs.

According to Utusan Malaysia, Hilir Perak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri said the 36-year-old man who tested positive for cannabis lodged a police report at 1pm today.

He said, in the incident, the man sustained head injuries.

"We have identified four individuals, who are believed to be friends of the victims, who were involved in beating the man up.

"The incident is said to have happened immediately after the accident and subsided as soon as the police arrived at the scene," he said here today.

According to him, further investigations are underway and investigation papers have been opened according to Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

Meanwhile, he said the driver of the car has been remanded for four days until this Sunday

"The investigation against the man was made under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he said.

It was reported that three Pakistani men who were walking to the mosque to perform the Aidilfitri prayers died after being rammed by a car at Kilometer 16, Jalan Teluk Intan-Bidor here yesterday.

In the incident which occured at around 8.10am,  all the victims aged between 20 and 35 died due to severe injuries.

Two of the victims died at the scene while the other breathed his last at Teluk Intan Hospital.
