Piasau Bridge in Miri to become next big tourist attraction

MIRI: Miri is set to become home to a new tourist magnet with the construction of the Piasau Bridge, envisioned as the region's latest iconic structure, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced the state government's approval for the bridge, aiming to connect Piasau to Miri Marina, near the Piasau Forest Reserve.

Abang Johari likened the design of the cable-stayed bridge to the engineering marvels of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge.

"Just as Kuching boasts the Darul Hana Bridge, Miri will soon flaunt its own architectural wonder.

"Though its name is yet to be decided, the construction will go ahead," he said during the 'Ramah Tamah Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Melayu Miri' event at a local hotel.

The Premier further mentioned Miri's impending evolution into a vibrant resort city, with the added prestige of a Unesco-recognised heritage site.
