Superbiker killed in crash on Second Link

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A superbike rider died after his vehicle crashed into a car that had stopped due to a traffic jam at kilometer (KM) 0.5 of the Second Link Highway (south direction) this morning.

Iskandar Puteri acting district police chief superintendent Ibrahim Mat Som said police received an alert about a crash involving three vehicles at about 8.50am.

"Preliminary investigation showed that the crash occurred when a Honda Civic, which was moving slowly in the right lane, suddenly stopped due to traffic congestion. The Piaggio Vespa motorcycle, which was traveling behind the Honda, crashed directly into the rear of the stopped vehicle.

"A few minutes later, a Ninja EX650 motorcycle came from the same direction and also crashed into the back of the same car.

"The impact from the crash caused the motorcyclist to be thrown off his machine onto the road. He died due to severe injuries at the scene of the accident," he said in a statement here today.

Ibrahim said the deceased motorcyclist was a 28-year-old local man.

"The driver of the car is a 31-year-old local man. He did not suffer any injuries. The Piaggio vespa rider, however, suffered a leg injury," he said, adding that investigations are still ongoing.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 for causing death due to reckless and dangerous driving.
