#NSTviral: Fire scare at Puchong mall: CNY decorative booth in flames [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Shoppers at IOI Mall Puchong were caught off guard yesterday as a Chinese New Year decorative booth caught fire, releasing plumes of smoke into the air.

Videos capturing the incident quickly went viral on various social media platforms.

In a Facebook post, IOI Mall Puchong confirmed the incident occurred at 7.10pm and was contained by 7.15pm, with no injuries or casualties reported.

"The cause of the fire is still under investigation and we are cooperating fully with the relevant agencies and local authorities.

"We apologise for any inconvenience or concern this may have caused," the post read.

The mall management added that all operations have been resumed currently with no disruption.

Meanwhile, RTM reported that the fire and rescue department received a call about the incident at 7.20pm.

The fire, affecting a 3x3 square feet decorative booth, was extinguished by the public using a dry powder fire extinguisher before the fire brigade's arrival.

While the small fire resulted in a 50 per cent damage to the decorative booth, it did not extend to other building structures.

Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the incident.
