#NSTviral: Woman keeps the last 'sambal ayam' prepared by her late mother for four years

KUALA LUMPUR: A TikTok user recently shared that she has been keeping a plate of "sambal ayam" (spicy chicken dish) in her freezer for four years.

The user, @_nhdy18, said the dish holds immense sentimental value, as it was the last meal prepared by her late mother before she passed away.

"Is there anyone who keeps food in the freezer for years? I am that person because this is the dish that my mom cooked for the last time. Although it hasn't been touched or eaten, I still keep it in the freezer.

"Yes, many ask why I did not throw it away. For me, I prefer to let it be. As long as the plate doesn't crack or break, it can stay in the freezer, even after four years.

"Everything that belonged to my mom, I leave as it is. Even her clothes are neatly kept in the wardrobe. If I miss her too much, I look at them. Maybe there's still a hint of her 'scent' remaining.

"It's not that I haven't accepted reality, but it's hard to explain. Only those who have experienced it know the real meaning of losing someone so dearly.

"My mom is no longer in this world, but she always lives in my heart forever," she wrote in her caption, accompanied by two photos: one of the sambal dish and another of her mother's grave.

In the comment section some TikTok users also shared similar experiences.

User @usinlempoyang1 said: "No one can ever cook dishes as delicious as the ones prepared by our mother. Even though it's the same recipe passed to my sister, it has never been the same until now."

User @nb_belles said; "I have been keeping a container of anchovies that my mother last made. It's been three years now. I'll let it rot and decay on its own."

User @ira.zahiraa wrote; "I keep a comb that still has my late mother's hair and a paper with her writing on it."
