#NSTviral: A 'beggar' behind the wheels of an imported car?

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman alleged of begging alms was seen driving an imported car in a video that lasted just over two minutes and circulated on social media.

When confronted, she calmly denied ownership, claiming the car was borrowed from a friend.

She also responded in English, saying, "Not my car."

With a matter-of-fact tone, she said, "I don't even have enough for food."

The video sparked tremendous interest among platform users. One commenter remarked, "It's the 'urban poor' – perhaps the easiest job."

Meanwhile, some were frustrated, with one saying: "Beggars are wealthier than those of us who toil day and night."

Recognising the trend's frightening rise, another user projected a boom in individuals choosing this unusual "profession", saying: "People are increasingly indifferent to the nature of their livelihoods…soon, more will fill the pavements."

According to a report by The New Straits Times, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) revealed that beggars in Kuala Lumpur could easily collect RM42 in donations within just 15 minutes. Malaysia seems to have become a sought-after location for foreign individuals seeking easy income through begging.
