Negri Sembilan MCA to field candidates chosen by the people: Liow

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan MCA will field candidates chosen by the people for the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the party will be conducting surveys in "MCA-allocated seats' areas" to identify who are the candidates the people want as future state assemblymen.

"The elections are just around the corner and we will let the constituents choose who they want to represent them.

"We will then work hand-in-hand with other Barisan Nasional component parties and wrest back the seats which we lost in the previous general elections," Liow told reporters after the Negri Sembilan MCA annual general meeting.

In the 13th General Election, MCA lost all of the 10 state seats allocated to the party in the state.

Negri state assembly has 36 seats, of which 22 is held by Umno while the remaining 14 seats are held by the opposition.

Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said together with the support of the Chinese voters, Barisan Nasional is confident that it will be able to wrest back some of the seats lost to the opposition in the last polls.

Among them are Sikamat (PKR), Chennah (DAP) and Nilai (DAP).

"All these constituencies are won by the opposition by a slim majority and there are a lot of fence sitters.

"I am confident that with the support of the Chinese community, BN will be able to sway the fence sitters and wrestle back all those state seats." said Mohamad who is Negri Sembilan's BN chairman.

He added that the state election machinery is prepared for the election and all it needs now is a "good jockey to steer the horse to victory".
