Pas Youth unveil alternative budget

KUALA TERENGGANU: Pas Youth has proposed the introduction of a luxury tax for the rich while continuing with direct and indirect tax collections by the Inland Revenue Department.

This was one of the proposals in its alternative 2018 Budget unveiled by its chief, Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi, today.

The Youth wing also proposed the waiver of Goods and Services Tax (GST) within three years.

The Pas alternative budget also proposes to enact a Corporate Savings Tax Act and Share Trading Act and wanted the Inland Revenue Department to play a role in ensuring the effectiveness of tax payment through enforcement.

Khalil, in the budget themed “Development for sustainability of future generations”, highlighted inefficient management, unemployment, social problems, burden of the GST to B40 and M40 groups, high household debts, rising cost of living and home affordability as its main concerns.

It blamed the Barisan Nasional for the problems and offered a Shariah-based framework as its ultimate goal in the budget, which covers matters related to religion, life, lineage, intellect and wealth.

On religion, it hopes to build a society that adheres to their respective religious teachings with a high tolerance attitude.

On life matters it hopes to increase funding for enforcement agencies while on intellect it propose to create a knowledge-savvy and patriotic generation.

On wealth, the party hopes to reduce the income gap and eliminate leakages and corruption through a more optimal system.

It also proposes to introduce people-friendly affordable housing policy, address unemployment issues and achieve a balance physical and spiritual development to build a Malaysian identity.

Accompanying Khalil, who is the son of Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, were Tepoh assemblyman Hishamudin Abdul Karim and Pas Youth vice-chief Fadhli Shaari who is also Kelantan Pas Youth chief.
