Umno has contributed greatly to education, says Ku Nan

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has reminded university students to acknowledge and be grateful for the party’s contributions in the education sector.

He said Umno, through the Education Ministry, had helped many students further their studies locally and overseas.

“The moment students complete their studies and return home, they are always angry with Umno. What mistake did we (Umno) make?” he said during the launching ceremony of Nadi Negara Alumni Association’s new logo here today.

He also said some students were ungrateful for all the sacrifices and contributions made by Umno.

Adnan added that the government had lowered the entry points system to allow more students to enrol in universities.

“We have a stable government now and without one, how will our future generation sustain itself?” he asked while addressing the group of graduates and undergraduates who were present at the event.

At a press conference later, Adnan said the government had spent billions of ringgit to ensure students received quality education and were not left out of the existing education system.

At the event, 25 excellent Malaysian students from local and foreign universities were awarded with the Nadi Negara Award by Wanita Umno.

The recipients went home with RM1000 cash, a trophy, a medal and a certificate.

The awards were presented by Umno Supreme Council Member and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.

Also present were Umno Wanita chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Jalil, Umno Malaysia Education bureau chief and Yayasan Minda president Tan Sri Dr Ibrahim Shah Abu Shah, and Wanita Umno Education and Higher Education secretariat president Datuk Noraslina Zainal Abidin.

Another five students pursuing their postgraduate studies were also given a one-off ‘Dermasiswa Nadi Negara’ aid worth RM4,000 to meet their financial needs.

The Nadi Negara Award is presented to top scorers from various universities and Nadi Negara Alumni Association has chosen 150 award recipients since its establishment eight years ago.
