Pas' Nik Abduh scoffs at PAN for receiving least seats

KOTA BARU: Pas central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Aziz today poked fun at Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) for receiving the lowest number of seats to contest in the upcoming general election.

“They are angry and sad because they have been given very few seats. This is after they underestimated Pas by claiming that they would contest any seats they wished,” said the Pasir Mas member of parliament in a Facebook posting today.

The son of the late Pas president Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat was believed to be referring to PAN, which received 27 parliamentary seats to contest in the 14th General Election, which must be held by Aug 24.

During its annual convention on Sunday, Pakatan Harapan announced that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia would contest 52 seats, followed by PKR (51), DAP (35) and PAN (27).

PAN was formed in 2015 by a group of disgruntled former Pas leaders, who lost the party election the same year.

Since then, PAN has contested two by-elections, but lost both.

Pas came in second, ahead of PAN in Kuala Kangsar by 801 votes, while in Sungai Besar, it was Amanah ahead of PAS by 707 votes.

Barisan Nasional won both seats with a 6,969 and 9,191-vote majority respectively.
