Sultan of Selangor reaffirms neutral stand on politics

SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the Selangor palace are impartial and will not side with any political parties in the country.

The Ruler affirmed his and the palace’s neutral stand on politics in a statement distributed to the media by his private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani today.

“I want to bring to the attention of the rakyat the scenario that will take place during the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14) scheduled in May.

“I want to stress that the palace and I will remain impartial and will not side with any political parties in the country.

“I do not have anything to do with any form of political competition and I will not interfere with any political matters involving the state or the country.

“I would like to also reaffirm my position as a Ruler, who is above politics and should not be seen as supporting any political parties,” the Sultan of Selangor said.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said he has faith and respected the power of the people to choose their leader, who they deemed qualified to represent them.

This, said the Sultan, was in accordance with the system of parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy adopted in Malaysia.

“I would also like to remind the people especially in Selangor to avoid any form of conflict and disturbance during the election season.

“I hope the 14th General Election could be carried out accordingly in a peaceful manner without any disturbance and chaos among the people,” he said.
