Terengganu BN confident of victory due to 3-cornered fights in all constituencies

KUALA NERUS: Terengganu Barisan Nasional is confident of securing a win to retain power in the 14th General Election.

State BN chairman and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said this was because all 32 state and eight parliamentary constituencies involved three-cornered fights.

“These three-cornered fights will work in BN’s favour due to split votes. I do not see any threats from our opponents (Pas and Pakatan Harapan),” he said at ‘Program Jelajah Cakna Ibu Tunggal Bersama Serikandi Terengganu 2018’ at the state indoor stadium in Gong Badak.

Razif said there would be 19 new faces, including three below the age of 40, in the state’s GE14 lineup.

He said, besides himself, Dr Tengku Asmadi Tengku Mohamad, Tuan Arif Sahibu Fadilah Tuan Ahmad, Che Mansor Salleh, Datuk Basir Ismail and Toh Puan Zaitun Mat Amin had also been selected to contest in Kuala Nerus.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has given his approval. But, I am not going to reveal where the six of us are going to stand, yet. An announcement will be made in two or three days,” he said.

Razif is the incumbent Seberang Takir assemblyman. It is strongly rumoured that he will be contesting for the Kuala Nerus parliamentary seat.

On a separate matter, he said, plans were afoot to establish a module to help 32,000 single mothers in the state to stand on their own feet via socio-economic programmes.

“This will help them get by in life, especially to look after their children so that they will not be deprived of education, healthcare and job opportunities,” he said.

Also on the cards, he said, was a rehabilitation centre-cum-saadah community village for dadah addicts at the Rimba Jaya Square here.

“We have solved the Mat Rempit menace by building a drag race track in Gong Badak. A motorcycle racing track will be built later this year,” he added.

Two days ago, state secretary Datuk Wan Nawawi Wan Ismail announced he was retiring on Sunday, two months ahead of the expiry of his extended contract on June 1, to contest the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat.
