Syamsul Debat accepts challenge to help BN wrest Sikamat

SEREMBAN: Syamsul Amri Ismail, better known as Syamsul Debat, believes that his status as an independent motivational speaker will be an advantage in helping Barisan Nasional (BN) capture the Sikamat state seat.

“I will divide my time as best as I can. As a people’s representative, of course more focus will be given to the community in my area,” said the 41-year-old, who was announced as Negri Sembilan Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate for the seat.

Syamsul was among the 22 new faces announced by Negri Sembilan BN to contest in the 14th General Election (GE14).

The candidates were announced by Negri Sembilan BN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan at his official residence here on Monday.

Syamsul, who hails from Negri Sembilan, has a huge task on his hands as the Sikamat seat has been under PKR for the last two terms.

Syamsul however, expressed confidence and believed his expertise as an motivational speaker would come in handy in the election.

“Alhamdulillah, I am grateful for the support received from the Menteri Besar, local leaders and friends, which led to my name being put up as a candidate for the Sikamat seat. It’s time to work hard to ensure BN’s victory.

“This will definitely be a hard task, but with this mandate entrusted to me, I will carry out the responsibility. As written in a hadith, those who do not fulfil their responsibility and promises, their iman (faith) will not be complete,” he said.

He said he would try to reach out to the community, especially the youth, to explain and convince them to continue supporting BN.

Syamsul, who was recently caught up in a controversy following a police report which accused him of being involved with a married woman, said he would try to correct the misperception about him.

“So many things have been said about me, but I’m going to clear things up and correct them to ensure that the people will get only the real information. The same goes for other issues involving the party.

“The speed of technology especially in the dissemination of information on social media is very challenging, but I will try to address any issues,” he said.

As a new candidate, he hoped the community in Sikamat could accept him and give him the opportunity to prove his ability to represent the people in the area.
