Independent candidates purchase 19 nomination forms from Kelantan EC

KOTA BARU: Nineteen nomination forms for the 14th General Election (GE14) have been sold by the state Election Commission (EC) to independent candidates as of last night.

Kelantan EC director Fakhrul Razi Ab Wahab said the 19 forms comprised 11 to independent candidates wanting to contest at state constituencies while another eight were for those interested in contesting in parliamentary constituencies.

He, however, could not disclose the background of the independent candidates.

Fakhrul said the 19 were among 771 nomination forms sold by the state EC since parliament was dissolved on April 7.

“The 771 forms including 577 nomination forms for state constituencies, have been sold to independent candidates and various political parties for RM20 each.

“We are expecting the sales of the forms to go up ahead of nomination day this Saturday,” he told NSTP today.

Fakhrul said more than 19,000 workers are expected to help the state EC during GE14.

He said there are about 1.04 million registered voters in the 14 parliamentary and 45 state constituencies in Kelantan.

He added that the state EC would also use the services of helicopters to fly ballot boxes from rural areas in Gua Musang.

It is learnt that among the independent candidates is Datuk Ibrahim Ali who is expected to contest in the Pasir Mas parliamentary constituency.
