Kayveas resignation will not affect BN parties: Subramaniam (NSTTV)

IPOH: The resignation of Tan Sri M. Kayveas as president of People’s Progressive Party (MyPPP) and the Perak state advisor will not affect the future of other Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said.

“I read the same thing today and from the message (that he received), the MyPPP members who fired him and if this true, there must be an internal problem in the party.

“His resignation will not give any impact to the party and I believe this happened when there are groups in the party who are dissatisfied with him and (perhaps) that is a personal issue,” he said.

Subramaniam was speaking at a press conference after visiting Buntong BN operation room here today in Kampung Kacang Putih. Also present were BN (MIC) candidate for Buntong, National Wanita MIC deputy chief, T. Thangarani and Jelapang BN (MIC) candidate K. Thangkaraj.

“The party remains but (it was) the party who decided to sack their president. We need to see the consequences that the party will face and the movement of the party but I believe none of these will be an issue.

“For instance, if there are influences of MyPPP and Indian community at the certain areas, these places can be filled with MIC for the Indian community there. We can help the process,” he added.

It was reported today that Kayveas in his Twitter account posted a status stating that he had resigned as MyPPP president, among others, on Monday.

He wrote: “Effective April 23, 2018, I have stepped down as the president of MyPPP. Chairman of WP. Advisor to the state of Perak.”

It was believed that his decision was due to his failure to secure candidacy for the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat lobbied by the party. BN has named MIC Youth chief, Datuk C. Sivaraajh as a candidate for the seat.

When asked how MIC would handle the dissatisfied MyPPP members after they failed to get seats, Subramaniam said: “We will call the person who works in the seats to support and work in the spirit of BN. I have asked Ipoh Barat MIC division chairman Tan Sri G. Rajoo and Thangarani to offer our hands to the MyPPP members to work together.

“MIC is not against MyPPP to get seats and had no time I have objected, I would very much see the party allocated seats. It is a negotiated process which should have been decided earlier and no issue would have been created.

He added that the problems arise when both parties work in the same place and began making claims which could have been avoided earlier. They started to work in seats in which we contested previously.

“We have to tell them it is our seats and the party had to maintain that stand. However the final decision is made by the top BN leadership in the spirit of consensus,” he added.

Kavyeas and Perak MyPPP vice-chairman Datuk Naran Singh had been working and serving in the two constituencies for some time with the hope that BN leadership the two seats.
