115 police reports lodged on election offences in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: State police have received 115 reports on election offences since nomination day.

Penang police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan said 15 investigation papers had been opened.

“In the latest incident, we detained two men yesterday for possessing ganja and testing positive for drugs at a political party’s operations centre.

“The rest of the reports are on trivial matters. This proves that the political situation is under control,” he said and urged political parties to apply for permits to hold ceramah.

“We do not allow the supporters of political parties to go on motorcycle parades while holding big flags.

“It is not only dangerous for them, but other road users as well.

“Refrain from raising sensitive issues such as race, issuing threats, during the campaign period.”

On a different matter, Thaiveegan said 5,101 officers and personnel from the state police contingent would cast their votes from 8am tomorrow.

He said 27 voting centres and 32 streams would be open for early voting.
