Good GE14 voter turnout contributed by good weather condition – Kedah EC

ALOR STAR: Good weather and being responsible are two factors contributing to the high percentage of voter turnout in Kedah during the polling day today.

Kedah Election Commission (EC) director Zuhri Ismail said until 1pm, the number of registered voters who turn up to vote was at 58 per cent.

The EC believes that the percentage would increase to 85 per cent as targeted by it.

“It is good that more people came out to vote…maybe they are worried due to recent weather condition in Kedah thus more people came out early morning fearing that it will rain in the evening.

“Other than that, civic awareness among the people who wanted to exercise their right as voters and we hope that our target of 85 per cent can be achieved before end of the voting period,” he said when contacted today.

The EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah has put a target of 85 per cent turnout from the registered voters nationwide during this 14th General Election.

Kedah has a total of 15 parliamentary seats and 36 state seats with 1,146,492 registered voters.
