Aminuddin's appointment as Negri Sembilan MB well received by family and friends

PORT DICKSON: His 104-year-old father teared up when the newly minted Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun asked for his father’s blessing today.

Harun Selamat, who is wheelchair bound, was seen shed happy tears when his youngest child was appointed as the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar after Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general election (GE14).

“The family has high hope that `Farid’ will execute his duties as the Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar effectively and the people can accept him well,” said Aminuddin’s brother Mohd Amin, 54, when met at his home in Kampung Pachitan, Chuah.

He also said his brother was always referred to as `Farid’ among his family members and close friends.

“When my father registered my brother after he was born, he has forgotten to put in the name Farid in the registration form and only has the name Aminuddin. Nonetheless, we still call him Farid.”

Aminuddin’s return to his family home after he had sworn in as the Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar was well received by his childhood friends and the people in the village.

Mohd Amin described his brother as a good man with strong leadership qualities.

Another brother, Ismail, 72, who was a former teacher, said, he had taught Aminuddin when his youngest brother was studying at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tanah Merah here.

“He was a good student and the only one in the school who had secured Grade 1 in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia in 1984.

“He furthered his studies at Shah Alam Institut Teknologi Mara (now UiTM), pursuing a degree in Business Management.

“Not only the family, all villagers in Kampung Pachitan are proud of him when he was named as the menteri besar,” he added.
