Parti Negara submits application to RoS

PUTRAJAYA: Parti Negara (Negara) pro-tem committee today submitted its application to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) for the party to be officially formed.

The party has based its political platform on a unique single purpose of fighting corruption.

Its protem president Datuk Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor told reporters Negara would be an independent multi-racial political party, which acknowledged the government's commitment to fight corruption, especially that of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"The prime minister is very consistent and firm in the fight against corruption. This is why we are of the opinion Dr Mahathir should be allowed to stay on for full term as the prime minister or the very least until three years," he told reporters after meeting with the RoS.

Also present were other protem committee members - deputy president Dr Ng Rui Wei, vice-president S. Gobi Krishnan, vice-president Mohd Hakimie Zainal Abidin, secretary-general Abd Ghani Haroon, treasurer Tan Chee Seng and Information chief Tuan Syed Nazarudin Syed Aziz.

Ezam said the establishment of Negara was timely because the country needed a political entity that was focussed and could provide check-and-balance on government efforts to combat corruption.

"Previously, the opposition was very serious and focussed its views about corruption. But now they have become the government and the current opposition is not being very vocal about corruption.

"This is not healthy for Malaysia and this is where we come in to provide the check-and-balance."

He also alleged that there was an uprise of some elite politicians with loaded funds, who he claimed were corruptors themselves.

Ezam said these group of politicians had begun to retaliate against the government's efforts in fighting corruption by distracting the people with other issues such as that involving race and faith.

On the party's logo and flag, Ezam said they would be revealed should RoS approve Negara's application.

"I estimate it will take about six months before we know if Negara has been approved or not."
