Don't pit me against Anwar, Azmin tells media

SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Azmin Ali warned the media to not pit him against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, saying that he was willing to cooperate as part of a team.

Asked if he was willing to work with Anwar, who is PKR president, Azmin replied in the affirmative.

“Yes, he is the president and I am the deputy president. (You the media) Do not provoke the president and deputy president. We have been together for decades,” said Azmin last night.

He said this after attending special thanksgiving prayers at Selangor Menteri Besar’s official residence, here.

Azmin said he was absent from PKR’s three-day Central Leadership Retreat in Port Dickson as he was abroad for official duties and had just returned home yesterday afternoon.

Azmin said he had not signed the party’s resolution on indicating support for Anwar as president as he was away.

“(The resolution is) Okay. Alhamdulillah. It means that PKR is solid and united,” said Azmin.

He, however, did not respond when asked if he was going to sign the resolution.

Azmin also said he was not referring to anyone when he stressed in his speech that his loyalty has its limits.

“I am not making any reference to anyone. But that was the message I want to share with my comrades, party members and the public.

“We must be loyal to the cause, not to the individual. This message is important as our country faces challenges and we have to work as a team.”
