KUALA LUMPUR: Four Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's supreme council members claim that the party's decision to form and be part of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) is illegal.
One of the supreme council members, Akramsyah Muamar Ubaidah Sanusi said the council had never agreed for Bersatu to join PN during its Feb 23 and 24 meetings.
He said the decision to join PN could not be found in any of Bersatu's meeting minutes, thus proving that a decision was never achieved by all council members on the matter.
The four council members also questioned disputed Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's recent sacking along with four other Members of Parliament by party president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Aside from Akhramsyah, the other three are Tariq Ismail, Datuk Abu Bakar Yahya and Ulya Aqamah Husamudin.
"How can we make a decision to sack Dr Mahathir and the other four for not sitting together with PN (in Dewan Rakyat) when PN is not a formal coalition and that the supreme council members never agreed to join PN?
"If we can do this to Dr Mahathir saying he has broken party rules, can the same action be taken against all of the other Bersatu MPs who simply joined PN without party's approval?
"To terminate someone's membership, it must be done based on logic," he told reporters when met after a Bersatu supreme council meeting Thusrday night.
The four council members left the meeting 45 minutes earlier, saying it was a sign of protest towards other party leaders.
Akramsyah said the party should've held a supreme council meeting prior to the May 18 Parliament sitting to iron out all issues involving its leadership.
"We should've held a meeting before the Dewan Rakyat session so that we could debate on all relevant issues and come up with a decision but sadly, that didn't happen.
"Instead, we are witnessing injustices being placed upon our MPs and supreme council members," he said.
Meanwhile, Ulya pointed out that the current leadership was only the caretaker of Bersatu at the moment and therefore should not have made any decisions regarding party policies.
"When we submitted our nomination papers (for party election from Jan to Feb), it means the current leadership has been dissolved.
"There are no more party leaders but simply caretakers of the party, which means, the caretakers can't make any changes to party policies (such as joining a new coalition).
"It's the same concept with a caretaker government (after Parliament is dissolved). The caretaker government can only take care of the country but not make any new or changes to country's policies," he said.
It was previously reported that Bersatu division meetings were to be held simultaneously nationwide on Apr 18 while Armada dan Srikandi division meetings were scheduled for Apr 11 where they would choose their national-level leaders.
However, due to Covid-19, the Registrar of Societies has instructed for all meetings, seminars and conventions to be postponed until after June 30
Earlier today, it was reported that Akhramsyah was sacked from his position as a supreme council member, however, he said his position was reinstated tonight.
"I think it will be wise for us all to have some manners when dealing with a founding member.
"I received a WhatsApp message that I was terminated and just now during the meeting, I received another letter saying that my earlier termination was cancelled.
"What is all this? I am sorry but this is very improper."
