EC: GRS secures 38 seats to form new Sabah govt [NSTTV]

KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission (EC) today announced that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has obtained the majority to form a new state government.

GRS, a new coalition made up of Perikatan Nasional (PN), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), secured 38 seats in total.

PN won 17 seats, BN secured 14 seats while PBS obtained seven seats.

The final results were announced by EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh at 12.30am.

Meanwhile, Warisan Plus secured 29 seats with Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) getting 24 seats, PKR winning two seats, and United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) obtaining one seat.

Of the 24 seats won under the Warisan banner, six seats were won by DAP.

The 16th state election also saw three independents winning in Pitas (Ruddy Awah), Kemabong (Datuk Rubin Balang) and Kuamut (Datuk Masiung Banah).
