Hamzah: PN's 12 ministers sent letter to King on party's instructions

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said he was obeying instructions from his party leadership when he and 11 others recently submitted a letter to the king.

Describing himself as "party man" who abides by PN's aspirations, he echoed his party's stand on not having the polls this year.

"As a member of the party, I, too, have to follow what the party wants.

"If the party says it is not appropriate (to hold a general election) now, I too have to agree that it is not appropriate," he told a a press conference after visiting the control centre for Op Banjir in Bukit Aman here today.

He also defended the 12 PN ministers move to send a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Meanwhile, caretaker International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said it was wrong and unbecoming for Ismail Sabri to blame his cabinet members for the early Parliament dissolution.

"The stance of the PN Ministers in rejecting the dissolution is a reaffirmation of the cabinet's decision on Sept 21 where the proposed dissolution of Parliament to make way for GE15 was discussed, and cabinet ministers agreed for the government to focus on the national economy and flood preparedness.

"The cabinet meeting on Sept 7 agreed that the process of dissolving Parliament needs to be done through consultation and decided by the cabinet members first before the prime minister presents the request for Parliament dissolution to the king."
