MyPPP: D'Cruz wins presidency unopposed

KUALA LUMPUR: MyPPP's annual general assembly (AGM) saw Datuk Seri Maglin Dennis D'Cruz win the party presidency unopposed, marking a fresh start for the party that has been embroiled in legitimacy issues for the past five years.

The AGM, which saw over 1,200 delegates in attendance, also voted for a new supreme council lineup and party vice-presidents.

Among the newly elected officials is Datuk Inder Singh, who has been appointed as the party's secretary-general.

Speaking to the media later, D'Cruz said the party was now focused on regrouping after being thrown into uncertainty following its de-registration in 2019.

"The new (party) lineup will meet sometime next week, while the relevant documentations have been submitted to the Home Ministry (as part of the process) in securing MyPPP's legitimacy.

"Next, we will meet the grassroots to explain the party's position and we hope to put this behind us."

On the party's ties with Barisan Nasional (BN), he lamented that former MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas made the decision unilaterally without consulting the supreme council, rendering it unlawful as it was against the party constitution.

He also questioned Kayveas' move in calling for a separate AGM on Saturday, while he was no longer a party member.

Furthermore, Kayveas announced it (MyPPP leaving BN) after his resignation, said D'Cruz.

"We never left the coalition (BN). Who are the supposed party members who attended the AGM (hosted by Kayveas)?

"All the legitimate party delegates are here today (at MyPPP's AGM)."
