More than 2,000 Pelangai voters living in KL identified, says Amirudin Shari

KUALA LUMPUR: The Pahang Pakatan Harapan (PH) identified over 2,000 voters for the upcoming Pelangai by-election who are currently living in Kuala Lumpur.

As such, efforts are underway to encourage these voters to return to cast their ballots on Oct 7, to ensure the victory of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Amizar Abu Adam.

Pahang PH chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the move was crucial in ensuring the state seat has proper representation, especially to continue development and the people's welfare is well taken care of.

"Right now, we must persuade voters who live outside the constituency, especially those in Kuala Lumpur, to come back and vote, which subsequently helps the BN candidate to win," he told reporters after launching the Selangor Property Expo 2023 organised by the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) yesterday.

The Election Commission has fixed Oct 7 for the Pelangai by-election following the death of its incumbent assemblyman Datuk Seri Johari Harun, who was killed in a plane crash in Shah Alam, Selangor, on Aug 17.

The by-election involves a three-cornered fight between BN candidate Datuk Amizar Abu Adam, Kasim Samat of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and an independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni.

When commenting on the current status of petitions to overturn the results of four seats won by PN in the Selangor state election in August, Amirudin, who is also PH Selangor chairman, said they are awaiting further information from lawyers regarding the matter.

Previously, it was reported that PH and Barisan Nasional were considering filing election petitions in the constituencies of Sungai Kandis, Taman Medan, Gombak Setia, and Dengkil, where PN had won with slim majorities.

The results for these four seats saw PH-BN defeated with margins of 407 votes in Dengkil, 167 votes in Sungai Kandis, 58 votes in Gombak Setia, and 30 votes in Taman Medan.
