Building bridges: Amanah president stresses cooperative ties in political coalition

KLANG: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu wants the new line-up of the party leadership to strengthen their cooperation with parties aligned in the unity government.

The Agriculture and Food Security Minister said Amanah's strength is the party's position and cooperation with parties in the political coalition.

"The strength of Amanah hinges on the (political) coalition (the party is in).

"Being in a political coalition is important… Our cooperation with PKR, DAP and now Barisan Nasional (BN).

"The same applies to the cooperation between Amanah and Sabah and Sarawak-based political parties.

"Therefore, this and the new leadership who will inherit the party in the future must continue to strengthen our ties (with other parties in the same) coalition," said Mohamad in his speech to adjourn the party's 2023 national convention today.

Any disunity in the political coalition the party is in, said Mohamad, will only negatively impact Amanah's political future.

Mohamad hinted that the 2023-2026 term would be the last time he would lead Amanah as the party president.

"We know the next general election is not far from now, perhaps in another four years.

"We must make the necessary preparations. By that time, based on the party's Constitution, a new president will lead the party, and that person will no longer be Abang Mat," he said.
