Antonia becomes second victim of crash following Chee Tean's death

KUALA LUMPUR: Austrian shuttler, Antonia Meinke, who was involved in the deadly crash that took the life of former Malaysian shuttler, Tan Chee Tean, last week, passed away on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, along with Chee Tean and another Austrian shuttler, Jenny Ertl, were on their way back to Vienna, after competing in the Czech Open International Challenge, when they were involved in a head on collision with another car.

Chee Tean, died on the spot, while Antonia succumbed to her injuries a week later.

It is learnt through an online report (Badzine) that Antonia was the one behind the wheel.

The BA of Malaysia (BAM) released a statement last week, saying Chee Tean, had enjoyed a six-year stint with the national body beginning 2012, before leaving the national setup in February.

It is understood that Chee Tean had made the decision to move to Austria, where he could further his studies and continue playing badminton professionally.

He was said to have been coaching Antonia and Jenny.

Last year, Dutch shuttler Eric Meijs, 26, also died in a car crash.
