Selangor to use National Stadium as home ground next year

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor received a major boost ahead of the upcoming Super League season after being granted rights to use the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil as their home ground next year.

FA of Selangor (FAS) president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said the team have been given the green light by the Malaysia Stadium Corporation (MSC) and are now awaiting approval from Football Malaysia LLP (FMLLP).

"In addition to our request to play at Shah Alam Stadium, we had also applied for National Stadium as our home ground. I am happy to announce that it has been approved today," said Subahan, when contacted today.

"I would like to thank MSC especially their chairman Datuk Mohammad Sahfri Abd Aziz for this.

"It is a huge honour for us to be given this privilege and I am very humbled because the state (government) who is supposed to be supporting us is not.

"We had applied three times last year and once this year to use the Shah Alam Stadium but we were turned down. We have no say as it is under the purview of the Selangor Menteri Besar.

"Shah Alam was built for Selangor but the irony is that they are allowing PKNS and other teams to play there except for Selangor itself."

Subahan said he hopes that FMLLP will be able to endorse his FA’s application to use the stadium.

"We have submitted all the necessary documents to FMLLLP today and I do not foresee any problems, it should be nothing more than a formality.

"This is the National Stadium after all I am certain it will meet all the requirements, such as the brightness of the floodlights, set by FMLLP."

Selangor had this year used the Selayang Stadium as their home ground.
