Luqman on double mission

KUALA LUMPUR: National Under-16 striker Luqman Hakim Shamsudin is out to achieve two targets at the ongoing AFC Championship.

He is not only eying the Golden Boot but is also determined to help Malaysia qualify for the Under-17 World Cup in Peru next year.

The four goals Luqman netted in Malaysia’s 6-2 win over Tajikistan in Thursday’s Group A match has given him added motivation to find the back of the net.

"This is the first time I have scored four goals in one match. Of course this gives me added motivation for the next game," said Luqman.

"I want to win the Golden Boot award but not just that. I want to help Malaysia qualify for the Under-17 World Cup.

“I will do my best to achieve both targets.

"I am still not satisfied despite scoring four goals. I need to keep working hard to ensure I am given the nod to start in the following matches.

Luqman's four goals in the 30th, 42nd, 46th and 67th minutes on Thursday proves he has the potential to become a future star.

Lim Teong Kim's charges will next face Southeast Asian heavyweights Thailand on Sunday and will end their group campaign against two-time winners Japan on Wednesday.

Luqman expects Thailand to be a huge threat.

"Thailand are a good team and of course they will be more competitive.

“The Thais are known to be fighters, so we need to play to our ability for a good result,” Luqman added.

The semi-finallists in the competition will qualify for the Under-17 World Cup as Asia’s representatives.
