Forward Luqman makes debut in J3 League

KUALA LUMPUR: Forward Luqman Hakim Shamsudin made his J3 League debut for YSCC Yokohama in today's 1-1 draw against Matsumoto Yamaga FC in Nagano.

His presence in the starting lineup shows that the 22-year-old has gained the confidence of Yokohama coach Kazuki Kuranuki. On Wednesday, Luqman was a second half substitute in Yokohama's 1-0 win over Mito Hollyhock 1-0 in the Levain Cup.

In today's match at Sunpro Alwin, Luqman played for 57th minutes before he was substituted.

Midfielder Ryotaro Yamamoto scored for Yokohama in the 49th minute. However, Matsumoto replied through striker Hayato Asakawa in the 79th minute.

Yokohama are 15th in the standings after three matches with two points in the 20-team J3 League, with FC Osaka leading the pack with nine points.

Luqman, who helped Malaysia finish runners-up at the Under-18 AFF Championship, joined Yokohama on loan from Belgian professional club KV Kortrijk.

Luqman needs to chalk up sufficient playing minutes to be in top shape to lead Malaysia's youth team at the Under-23 Asian Cup in Doha on April 15. - BERNAMA
