Verdon's resignation sparks controversy in Sabah football

KUALA LUMPUR: The resignation of Datuk Verdon Bahanda after just five weeks as Sabah FC Sdn Bhd chief executive officer has rocked the football fraternity in the state.

His resignation came just after the appointment of Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin as Sabah FA (Safa) interim president.

It has also sparked confusion whether Safa still have full control over the state football team.

Sabah have gone through the privatisation process, and the state team are supposed to be managed by Sabah FC Sdn Bhd.

FA of Malaysia (FAM) secretary general Stuart Ramalingam, however, cleared the air on Friday by stating that M-League teams have been given two more years for the full separation from their respective FAs.

However, it is learnt that FAM have requested an explanation from Safa over the latest development. The national body hope to get the answers by the end of the month.

"We are consistently in touch with Safa to understand the changes happening in the association.

"However, we have no issues regarding the change in leadership.

"We just want to make sure that any changes in Safa are in accordance to the association's statutes," said Stuart.
