Luqman happy to be at Kortrijk

BELGIUM-based Luqman Hakim Shamsudin is enjoying his time at KV Kortrijk since joining the club four months ago.

It has so far been a fruitful stay at Kortrijk as the Kota Baru-born has made appearances for the club, both in the Belgian Pro League and friendly matches.

He is also now fluent in English.

Although he misses Malaysia, Luqman, who is on a five-year contract, is happy to be at the club.

"People from the Malaysian embassy do visit me regularly in Kortrijk, and they bring me home-cooked Malaysian food.

"The other thing is the language. I am now fluent in English.

"I am happy here and training hard," he said.

Luqman hopes the AFC Under-19 Championship in March will go ahead as scheduled as he wants to play for the country.

The 18-year-old also hopes to join Brad Maloney's training camp next month, if the tournament is not called off.

Luqman could also earn a senior team call up if national coach Tan Cheng Hoe decides to include him for next month's centralised training.

"I am not expecting a senior call up next month. However, if my name is on the list, then it will be great.

"Of course, the AFC Under-19 Championship is the priority, and I will focus on preparing for the competition with my teammates if it is not cancelled."

Cheng Hoe, however, indicated that Luqman would not be called up for his camp.

"Our overseas-based players should remain at their respective clubs. Furthermore, there will be no hiccups as clubs will have to release their players during the Fifa windows. The next window is in March.

"As for Luqman, he will be better off training with his club to prepare himself for opportunities to play for the national team. I will consider all players who do well at their clubs," said Cheng Hoe.

Malaysia will kick-off their international season against Bahrain in a friendly, followed by a pre-World Cup/Asian Cup match against the United Arab Emirates, both in March.

Harimau Malaya will end their Group G qualifying campaign against Thailand in June.
