Xmas cheers for Golden Hornbill

Finally, some Christmas cheer for Sarawak United players; their team management have settled their salaries owing.

Following this, the Malaysian Football League (MFL) will not kick the Golden Hornbill out of next year's M-League.

Sarawak United, who finished second in this season's second-tier Premier League, were said to owe their players up to three months in salaries.

Because of this, they were not granted a full club licence by MFL in October. And Sarawak were staring at a transfer ban, demotion or even expulsion from the M-League.

Sarawak United were told to pay their players and submit proof of payment to the Inland Revenue Board and MFL Club Licensing.

MFL chief executive officer, Stuart Ramalingam, said he has viewed Sarawak United's proof of payment, and he expects the official documentation to be submitted soon.

"We have been working with the Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia to resolve the unpaid issue," said Stuart.

"I have received the payment evidence by Sarawak United, but we are awaiting the official statements which will be done in a couple of days.

"We are glad to see the issue being resolved. MFL have always ensured that unpaid wages are resolved.

"MFL have thrown the book hard at errant M-League teams in taking measures to clean up Malaysian football of poor management."

Last year, UKM FC and Felda United were booted out of the M-League for failing to meet league requirements. Melaka United were also docked three points in January for failing to pay their players on schedule.
