Selangor sign fiery Chilean for M-League

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor have recruited Chilean Ronnie Fernandez to replace their top striker, Ayron Del Valle of Colombia, for the 2024-2025 M-League season.

Del Valle helped Selangor finish second in the Super League last season with 25 goals in 33 games. He returned to his country as he was home sick.

Fernandez, 32, who will be playing in Southeast Asia for the first time, played in the South American World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil in 2022. In the same year, he was called for three international friendlies against South Korea, Tunisia and Ghana.

He made 69 appearances in the Saudi Pro League for Al Nasr SC and Al Fayha where he scored 26 goals and made nine assists.

Selangor head coach Tan Cheng Hoe feels that Fernandez will greatly help them convert their chances in front of goal, which was a main weakness last season.
