Astro Masters is back offering prizes worth RM600,000

KUALA LUMPUR: Golfers in Malaysia will be thrilled to know that the country’s most popular amateur golf tournament, The Astro Masters is back this year.

Participants will play at 11 qualifying rounds throughout the country and the top golfers of the tournament will congregate at Sunrise Golf & Country Club and Miramar Golf Country Club, Taipei, Taiwan for the Grand Finals. Participating golfers stand a chance to win prizes worth over RM600,000, including a chance to drive home in a brand new Mazda CX-9 luxury Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) worth over RM290,000.

The tournament will tee off at the Tropicana Golf & Country Club on May 2, with 11 qualifying rounds on 10 courses across 6 states, that includes Putrajaya.

The four new courses include The Els Club Teluk Datai, The Els Club Desaru Coast, Glenmarie Golf and Country Club and Palm Garden Golf Club.

The Strokeplay format remains, with the overall Gross and Nett champions qualifying from each round for the Grand Final.

The Best Gross and Best Nett champion will get a chance to play in the Grand Finals at the Sunrise Golf & Country Club and Miramar Golf Country Club, Taipei, Taiwan.

Golf enthusiasts can catch the highlights of The Astro Masters on Astro SuperSport 3 HD on television, and on mobile devices via Astro GO.

The Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) sanctioned tournament retains its strokeplay format and the entry fee is RM600 per person while Astro subscribers need only pay RM400 to compete.

In last year’s competition, Hezri Hasan was named as the champion and golfer of the year after shooting a two-day total of 144 while Siw Tong Larm won the nett category at 135.
