KLHC, powered by foreign aces, gun down UniKL

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC) stormed into the final of the P. Alagendra Cup with a 3-1 win over Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

KLHC will meet Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) in tomorrow’s final.

UniKL coach A. Arul Selvaraj and his KLHC counterpart Lim Chiow Chuan unleashed their best foreign and local signings in the match.

Arul paraded Irish goalkeeper David Harte, Australians Glenn Stewarts Turner and Kieran Ian Govers, Netherlands’ Sanders De Wijn and former Malaysian international Kevin Lim in the match.

Australia’s Joshua Pollard and Nicholas Budgeon arrived in time to add depth to KLHC’s attack while their defence was manned by penalty corner specialists in South Korea’s Jang Jong Hyun and Razie Rahim.

Jong Hyun was the toast for KLHC with a double in the 41st and 55th minutes with Pollard (11th minute) scoring the other goal.

UniKL replied through Faridzul Afiq Mohd in the 23rd minute.

“We played a controlled game. We played the ball well and took our chances,” said Chiow Chuan.

“Pollard only arrived just hours before the game but he still managed to combine well with the other players.

“It was a tough game, but we settled well and never gave up.

“It was a good win against a great side and we are excited to move into the final.”

UniKL coach Arul said: “We made some critical errors in defence. We had our chances. Despite the defeat, I am happy with our performance.

“We will study the video of this match and see where we went wrong.” he said.
