Shooters Haritz and Sharifah set new national record

KUALA LUMPUR: Haritz Iklil Hessly Hafiz and Sharifah Noor Ellyna Syed Abdul Hamid set a new national record in the 10m air rifle mixed event in the President Ally T. H. Ong Trophy at the National Subang Shooting Range today.

Representing Malaysian Universities, the pair scored 624 points in the qualifying round, surpassing the previous record of 622.3 set by Armed Forces' Ezuan Nasir Khan-Nur Suryani Taibi at the Chia Woh Trophy last year.

In the final, Haritz-Sharifah secured silver with 14 points, while Penang's Irfan Danish-Nur Msisarah Dzulkifli took gold with 16 points.

Melaka's Ahmad Fahmi Ammar Rahim-Shaveena Mel Vejayan bagged bronze. Haritz, 23, said: "We are not a regular pair, but still, we managed to break the record in the qualifying, although we won only a silver in the final.

"It could have been perfect had we won the title.

"Still, breaking the national record is a good boost ahead of the Asian Championships in Jakarta, a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"Overall, I am happy with my performance in this five-day meet. I also won gold medals in the 10m air rifle and 50m three-position individual events."
