Sanjay reaches Bermuda Open final

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's squash player Sanjay Jeeva is just one match away from winning the Bermuda Open.

World No. 76 and second seed Sanjay defeated Colombia's seventh seed Edgar Ramirez 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 in the semi-finals yesterday.

The United States-based Sanjay will face Colombia's sixth seed Andres Herrera in the final.

World No 122 Herrera upset compatriot Matias Knudsen 10-12, 10-12, 11-8, 11-5, 11-9 in the semi-finals.

Sanjay, 24, said: "Although I really want to win the title, my focus is staying patient and playing smart squash.

"If I start thinking of winning the title, I will lose focus on how I should be playing."

National chief coach Ajaz Azmat said Sanjay should be able to beat Herrera in the final.

"But Herrera is a tough player and Sanjay must stay on his toes. Anything can happen in the final but I have faith in Sanjay," said Ajaz.
