Sanjay's Montreal Open gallant run ends in semi-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Squash player Sanjay Jeeva's impressive run in the Montreal Open came to an end in the hands of second seed Nathan Lake in the semi-finals on Saturday in Canada. The Malaysian, seeded ninth, lost 11-6, 11-1, 11-4 to world No. 25 Englishman in just 27 minutes.

Lake will now face top seed Greg Lobban of Scotland in the final. Despite the defeat, it was a successful tournament for world No. 99 Sanjay, who achieved the biggest win of his career by defeating world No. 43 David Baillargeon of Canada in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Sanjay, who is based in Connecticut under coach Rodney Martin, said: Unfortunately, I was feeling my hamstrings from a split I did in in previous round, so I couldn't move as well as I would've liked.

"It was a good experience. I'm very pleased with my performance in my first event of the year.

"My run to the semi-finals will help me improve my world ranking."
