KUALA LUMPUR: Talk about a literal pain in the ass.
In an unusual medical case, Chinese doctors removed more than 100 fish bones from a man's anus after he feasted on a bowl of carp soup.
Chengdu Business Daily reported that the 63-year-old senior from Sichuan province, who goes by the pseudonym Zhou, had feasted one night on a dinner of boiled carp soup. As the fish was relatively small, he thought it would be alright to devour it all – including the bones.
Although he first felt a sharp pain in his throat, Zhou didn't pay much attention to it and went about his business as usual after the meal.
Unfortunately for Zhou, the bones didn't end up coming out as easily as how they went in.
When he tried using the bathroom several days after his meal, he felt severe pain in his anus.
Unable to handle the pain, he asked his son to take him to the hospital where a CT scan revealed tight clusters of fish bones stuck in his rectum.
Zhou was promptly rushed to the surgery room where a tricky two-hour operation took place, with doctors pulling out 100 bones from his anus
However, there were still more bones lodged inside his rectum, but doctors were unable to pull them out for fear of bursting a blood vessel.
Zhou was sent home by the doctors who told him to come back in a week if the pain persists.
The doctors admitted that the operation was a first for them. Prior to this, the most fish bones they had to remove from a patient was 10. – Says.com
