Thailand's latest Covid-19 death linked to Sri Petaling tabligh gathering

BANGKOK: Thailand on Friday reported 91 new Covid-19 cases and one fatality – a Thai man who attended the tabligh gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque from Feb 28 to March 1.

The man’s death brings the tally of Covid-19 fatalities in Thailand to five, while the number of infections rose to 1,136.

The 50-year-old man was one of 132 Thais who attended the mass religious gathering in Kuala Lumpur. Up to 16,000 people from around the world took part in the event.

“(The man’s) condition deteriorated (on Thursday).

“He was pronounced dead at Sungai Kolok Hospital, Narathiwat at 3am (local time on Friday),” said Sungai Kolok district officer Preecha Nuannoi.

He added that family members of the deceased tested negative for Covid-19.
