19 Indonesian members of parliament Covid-19 positive

JAKARTA: A total of 19 members of the Indonesian Parliament have been confirmed Covid-19 positive, with the republic recording 3,492 new positive cases within the last 24 hours.

According to the Secretary General of the House of Representatives (DPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, Indra Iskandar, a total of 42 staff of the house have also been infected with the virus.

Speaking to the local media today, he expressed concern of more staff of the house being confirmed Covid-19 positive.

The last time the Indonesian DPR, which has 575 members, met was on Oct 5 when it passed the Omnibus Law on Job Creation, which also led to protests being held in Jakarta and several other cities on Oct 8 by quarters who opposed the law.

Last Friday, Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party lawmaker Soepriyatno died due to Covid-19.

Based on the data published by the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) on its official twitter page @BNPB_Indonesia today, the overall positive cases in the republic have now increased to 336,716, with a total of 11,935 deaths.

Jakarta province recorded the highest total number of positive cases, at 88,174, an additional of 1,211 new positive cases within the last 24 hours.

However, Jakarta has re-enforced the transition phase (recovery) of the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) for two weeks starting today, which among others allow some socio-economic activities to be back in operation.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, in a statement, said PSBB would be re-enforced if the daily positive cases continues to surge. -- BERNAMA
