Vaping not allowed at Youth and Sports Ministry facilities

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has banned vape devices at Youth and Sports Ministry facilities throughout the country.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh told Dewan Rakyat that the Cabinet has made the decision earlier this month where all of the ministry's facilities are now categorised as no smoking and vaping areas.

"The decision, among other things, takes into account the 2004 Tobacco Product Control Regulations and the amended 2008 Tobacco Product Control Regulations that gazetted sports facilities such as stadiums and sports complexes as no smoking zones.

"Vaping at all stadiums are prohibited. Vape is among the list of prohibited items like cigarettes, lighters, power banks and umbrellas because they are classified as weapons that can harm people.

"The security team will conduct physical checks to the spectators and those found vaping at the venue will be face action," she said during the winding up speech of the ministry's 2024 Supply Bill (2024 Budget) committee level debate today.

She said the government will make announcements, place banners and displays on the scoreboard to remind the people on the ruling.
