Framing it up: TV as an art decor

KUALA LUMPUR: For once, TVs can now be labelled as home art decoration just like a painting mounted on a wall.

The Frame TV, Samsung Malaysia Electronic's latest unveiling in Malaysia, is a television designed to merge seamlessly with the homeowner’s interior decor.

According to Samsung, The Frame is more than just a screen for homeowners to enjoy their favourite entertainment programme; it is also a statement piece likening the home to an upscale art gallery.

“At Samsung, we believe that design starts with people – who they are, what they love and how they live. Within the home, technology is very personal and we wanted to make sure we gave users a product that is customisable to their lives. To showcase the integration of art, design and technology, we are pleased to collaborate with interior design firms such as Nu Infinity, Santa Fe Interior Architecture and Surface R to demonstrate how seamless and effortlessly The Frame fits into any decor – be it modern contemporary, industrial or minimalist,” said Jimmy Tan, Head of Consumer Electronics, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

The Frame’s line-up includes 55-inch and 65-inch models. Instead of fading to black like a conventional TV, The Frame display transforms into bespoke work of arts when powered off. Through its Art Mode feature, The Frame can display 100 exclusive works of art by 37 renowned designers or precious family photos, all of which can easily be controlled via smartphone application. This easily adds a personal and emotional touch to homeowner’s living space.

Tan said The Frame display is equipped with a brightness sensor, which allows customisable displayed contents on-screen to adjust to the natural levels of light that are in the room, giving it the appearance of a picture frame on the wall. To ensure that The Frame enhances the ambiance and decor of any living space, it consists of customisable frame options including Walnut, Beige wood and White, providing users with the flexibility to match their TV to their interior.

Commenting on the power usage, he said that the TV only uses 30 percent of extra power consumption monthly which is an estimate RM4 to RM5 on top of your usual bill for television - if it is powered up to display photos, acting as an art decor.

"A sensor on the TV detects if someone is present in front of The Frame. It will automatically turn off when no one is around and power up again when there's someone near," he said.

The TVs will be available starting Aug 15, 2017 at a recommended retail price of RM14,999 for the 65-inch model and RM9,999 for the 55-inch model.
