#NSTviral: Woman wraps car with decorative lights, RTD says can be fined

KUALA LUMPUR: During the festive season, many motorists are inspired to decorate their vehicles and tap into their creative side to come up with the most original ideas.

Recently, a netizen documented how she took six hours to decorate her car with decorative lights, wrapping the lights all over her car.

In a viral TikTok post by @kaksuemeow, Nur Aliah said she made her car shine bright with decorative lights.

However, the Road Transport Department (RTD), Mohd Syahmi Abdul Latif has clarified that it is on offence to decorate one's car with decorative lights

RTD public relations officer Muhammad Syahmi said the owner of the car can be fined.

"Even though the intention is to celebrate Ramadan, the owner of the vehicle will be cautioned to restore the vehicle to its original state or be fined.

"In any case, the decision rests with the officer in charge.

"For this type of offence, a fine typically issued for between RM100 and RM200," he said when contacted.

In her viral post, Nur Aliah said she had bumped into police several times while driving in Bukit Bintang but did not get fined.

"I got a thumbs up instead.

"I have since removed the decorative lights from the car but there is still a possibility that I will decorate it again.

"It took me about 6 hours last time to put up all the lights and wrap them around my car," she added.
