(Showbiz) Netizens chide actress Elfira Loy's OTT engagement do

KUALA LUMPUR: It looked more like a wedding than an engagement ceremony.

This is the general sentiment by many Netizens on the engagement ceremony of actress and TV host Elfira Loy, 23.

Her engagement to singer Sufian Suhaimi, 25, held last Friday has been criticised as being over the top.

According to a news report by BH Online, the ceremony which was sponsored by several parties, also saw the newly-engaged celebrity couple photographed in two sets of attires.

Some Netizens pointed out that in Malay tradition, “bertunang” is a ceremony that should only involve the future bride and families from both sides.

When photos of Elfira and Sufian in matching elaborated outfits sitting on the beautifully-made dais (which is usually reserved for wedding day) were made available on the Internet, many people deemed it as being a little too much.

“We actually planned for a small do, to be witnessed only by family members. However, as Elfira has been in the entertainment industry for some time, we decided to invite some of her celebrity friends and the media,” said Sufian.

“Since several quarters wanted to come in to help organise the engagement ceremony, the initial plan of keeping it small went out of proportion,” he admitted.

Sufian also said he was only present after the engagement ceremony had ended. That was when the photos were taken.

Their wedding day has been set for March next year.
