(Showbiz) GV4 finals to see vocal battling by Aishah, Liza Hanim, Hazami, Lan, Firman and Tia Jinbara

KUALA LUMPUR: The semi-finals of singing competition Gegar Vaganza Season 4 (GV4) last night saw Aishah delivering a mesmerising rendition of Tina Turner’s River Deep Mountain High, which resulted in permanent jury member Datuk Ramli MS giving her an early ‘ticket’ to the finals, to be held on Sunday.

“Aishah is a genuine singer. She might be older now but she can definitely leave other singers far behind in the dust,” he said of her performance.

Ramli added that Aishah possessed a similar vocal quality to Celine Dion and could hit the hard-to-reach high G-sharp note.

By the end of the semi-finals, Liza Hanim, Hazami, Lan, Firman and Tia Jinbara were the other singers who also made it through to the finals, which will be aired live from Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios in Johor.

Unfortunately, Syura was the one to be axed during the semi-finals, which took place at Dewan Sri Putra in Bukit Jalil.

Although she delivered energetic performances of Dokter Cinta (Dewi Dewi) and Cinta Antara Benua (Arni Nazira), the jury panel wasn’t excited enough to up her score in order for her to get into the finals.

The seventh-week GV4 episode with an original soundtrack theme was judged by Ramli and Hetty Koes Endang, with Datuk Tarmimi Siregar and Datuk Wah Idris as guest judges.

Hosted by Nabil Ahmad and Jihan Muse, the semi-finals also featured opening performances by Datuk Seri Shah Rezza, Ebby Saiful and Isma Aliff.

The winner of GV4 will receive a cash prize of RM100,000, while the first runner-up will get RM50,000. The third, fourth, fifth and sixth place winners will win RM30,000, RM20,000, RM15,000 and RM10,000 respectively.

GV4 airs live on Astro Ria (Channel 104) and Ria HD (Channel 123).
